# Add Slate Standard Portals via Suitcase

Portals are microsites that can access Slate data and use Slate authentication.

This article features several out-of-the-box portals that can be added to your database with [Suitcase import](/v1/docs/suitcase-import). They can be customized once imported.

Portals represent fully-customized software development and require specialized resources. Undertaking any portal project, including the out-of-the-box portals in this article, requires staff resources for configuration and maintenance.

## Applicant status portal

The **applicant status portal**replaces the `/apply/status.XSLT` file your institution may have previously used to customize the applicant's experience after submission.

The applicant status portal lets you:

- customize checklist sections
- filter on static content
- integrate social media
- add merge fields

### Standard application status portal

The **standard application status portal**updates the `/apply/status.XSLT` file with drag-and-drop widgets.

- For institutions seeking to mirror the existing `/apply/status.XSLT` functionality, we recommend importing this portal to then build upon.
- If you have made any edits to the `/apply/status.XSLT` file, these edits will not be reflected in the portal.
- See [Migrating Portals from XSLT to Views](/v1/docs/migrating-application-status-portals-from-xslt-to-views) for advice on translating teasers and other application status page edits to the Application Status Portal.

### Customized application status portal

The **customized application status portal**includes:

- Checklist by Section widget
- more merge fields
- filters on widgets
- staff-assigned information
- test scores table

This portal requires you to review the filter criteria, checklist sections, and other information before going live with the portal.

## Enrolling student portal

While many partners continue to evolve the application status portal beyond the point of an admission decision, some institutions may wish to give enrolling students their own portal with a different look and feel. The [enrolling student portal](/v1/docs/slate-standard-enrolling-students-portal) is intended only for enrolling students, where they can see enrollment checklist items and find additional information about the institution and enrollment process. In addition, the portal includes optional features, such as the ability for records to update their profile and search using a directory of fellow enrolling students.

## Alumni interview portals

Slate provides two alumni interview portals. Both require a **custom dataset**to store alumni volunteer information.

Before you import the portal with Suitcase, follow the steps in [Slate Standard Alumni Interviewing Portal](/v1/docs/slate-standard-alumni-interviewing-portal) to:

1. Create an alumni volunteer dataset
2. Create a related dataset row field to represent the interviewer
3. Create custom forms to capture assignments

Portal options include:

#### 1) Alumni assign themselves to interview students

Alumni volunteers select which applicants to interview and provide feedback through a custom form.

> ```

#### 2) Designate alumni captains to assign interviews

Similar to the other alumni interviewing portal, but lets you designate certain alumni volunteers are as captains. These captains see the list of applicants and match them with alumni volunteers for interviews. Volunteers can see their assignments and provide feedback through a custom form.

## Athletics portal

This portal is configured to leverage the Slate standard sports table, and coaches are set up as users with specific roles in Slate. Coaches are added to Slate as administrative users and given a custom role that matches the names of sports. Person records with the corresponding sport on their profiles are then shown to the appropriate coaches. The specific details of the information shown to the coach can be customized and, using a custom form. Additional information can be added to the records by coaches.

## Giving Day portal

A portal can be a helpful tool to display information about a giving campaign or Giving Day. This portal allows advancement offices to display information about a specific campaign, a list of recent donors, metrics regarding the goal of the giving day or campaign, and links to giving forms.

## Tour guide portal

> [!CAUTION]
> 🔔 Important!
>
> This example is a **legacy portal** that uses POST methods, which are no longer maintained or supported by Technolutions. Use an [embedded form](/v1/docs/using-slate-forms-with-portals) to store portal data instead.

Tour guides can sign up to assist with campus tours (or any other type of event) via a portal. Tour guides, in [this example](/v1/docs/slate-standard-tour-guide-portal), are dataset records that can log into the portal and manage their tour assignments.

## Event portals

Slate provides two example [event portals](/v1/docs/event-portals). These portals are configured to provide varying degrees of functionality for students looking to sign up for events.

### Event portal with Tabs and Space Available

Students can sign up for events from this portal. This portal incorporates tabs to allow students to easily navigate and sign up for both On Campus Events and Virtual Events.

### Event portal with Tabs, Space Available, Reports, and more

Students can sign up for events from this portal. This more robust portal provides additional functionality, such as reports, and also includes the Find My Counselor functionality.

> [!NOTE]

> ```

## Reader portal

Portals can be [embedded inside the Reader](/v1/docs/portals-in-reader), allowing more dynamic pages to be accessible to readers (for example, dashboard pages). Conditional logic, tables, Liquid markup, and more can be leveraged to create an enhanced reader experience.

> [!NOTE]

>
> ```SuitcaseID
> af8ad3fe-d313-43dd-9d3a-90d79a193cea:slate-examples
> ```

## Multiple tabs portal

Portals can have [multiple tabs](/v1/docs/portal-tabs) in a single framework. This basic example demonstrates a default page with standard sections that display all the time, with a home tab, second tab, and third tab.

> [!NOTE]
> 💼Try a Slate example

>
> ```SuitcaseID
> 9e187a9f-5f36-4fb3-b627-c51d97c3a5ab:slate-examples

## Anonymous student portal

Portals can be a powerful tool to assist in gathering general information about prospective students. This portal is accessible to students without the need for them to login and provides them with a Request For Information form to fill in any remaining information.
