Overview

The Slate AI side panel gives users a general-purpose place to ask questions while working in Slate. For advancement users, it can serve as a quick assistant for remembering how to complete administrative tasks, asking for configuration guidance, or getting help with common Slate concepts without leaving the workflow.

Why this is useful

Advancement work often requires users to move between operational tasks and system configuration. A staff member may need to create a field, build an entity, remember how Liquid markup works, or understand how to approach a Slate task. The side panel provides a convenient place to ask for help while staying in the current Slate environment.

How to use the side panel

  1. Open the Slate AI side panel.

  2. Ask a direct question about the task you are trying to complete.

  3. Provide context when needed, such as the tool you are using, the record type involved, or the desired outcome.

  4. Review the answer and verify configuration-sensitive details before applying them.

  5. Ask follow-up questions to refine the guidance.

Sample prompts

What are the steps to create a new entity record type for named spaces used in stewardship reporting?
How should I create a new field to track a donor’s preferred stewardship format?
Can you help me write Liquid markup that loops through a donor’s recent gifts and displays the fund name and amount?

Be specific about your goal. Instead of asking “How do I make a field?” ask “How do I create a person-scoped field that advancement users can use to track preferred stewardship format?”

Use the side panel for guidance, but verify high-impact configuration decisions. For example, field scope, permissions, prompt values, data retention, and reporting implications should still be reviewed by an administrator.
