Batch Assign User Permissions Using Query

Article summary

If you need to assign a permission to multiple users after your user accounts have been created, you can use the query tool to update accounts quickly and easily.

Creating the Query

  1. Click Queries / Reports in the top navigation bar and start a new Quick Query.

  2. Set the Category to Related and the Base to User and click Build Query.

  3. Add the Name filter if you wish to choose multiple users to assign the new permission. Us can use CTRL-SHIFT or CTRL-Click to select different users from the list presented.

  4. Add at least one export such as User Full Name.

  5. Click Run Query.

  6. From the Query Results page, set the Output type as Security under the Batch Management section and click Export.

  7. Within the pop-up you can choose to set the following:

    • Assign Role - Assigns the selected role to all users in the query results

    • Remove Role - Removes the selected role from all users in the query results.

    • Add Explicit Permission - Adds the selected permission to all users in the query results.

    • Remove Explicit Permission - Removed the selected permission from all users in the query results (this does not prevent the permission from being inherited from a role).

    • Update User Status - Activate all users in the query results or Inactivate all users in the query results.

    • Set User Expiration Date - Set an expiration date (upon this date the user will no longer have access to Slate) for all users in the query results. Leave the Expires After box blank to clear the Expiration Date from all users in the query results.

    • Set User Multi-Factor Authentication - Activates multi-factor authentication for increased system security

  8. Click Submit to update the selected users.
