# Cloning Applications

> [!NOTE]
> 📚 Part of the series **Application Building Phase II:**[**The Slate-hosted Application**](/v1/docs/introduction-to-the-slate-hosted-application)

Some processes call for cloning a submitted application for deferral processes or applying for multiple programs via one application. The institution needs to create separate application records in the database. Cloned applications will be related to the original application.

> [!CAUTION]
> 1. Only **submitted** applications can be cloned.
> 2. Cloning applications with this process can only be done individually on the record.
> 3. Cloned application will **not** include:
> 1. Video Essays from the primary application
> 2. Digital Portfolio

## Steps to Cloning an Application

1. Go to **Records**and search for the record with the application you want to clone.
2. Open the **Applications tab**and select the application.
3. In the right-hand navigation, click **Edit Application Details**.
4. Select **Clone**.

*Note: If you do not see the ‘Clone’ button, check to make sure the application is submitted.*
5. From the **Round**list, select the round for the new application.
6. Choose which **application-scoped material** types and**payment information** should be copied to the new application.

*Example: Letter of Recommendation, Resume, and High School Transcript.*

***Copy Materials**and **Waive Application Fee** are selected by **default**.

1. **Clear**these options if the cloned application should require new materials or a new application fee.

*Selecting or clearing Copy Materials will include or****exclude****all application-scoped materials at once.*
2. Select **Clone**.
