To configure Slate Video requires **portals.**If you haven’t explored them already check out our articles on [Portals](/v1/docs/portals-portals)and [Creating a Custom Portal](/v1/docs/creating-a-custom-portal). The basic steps to configuring Slate Video are: 1. Create a new portal. 2. Create a new view for the portal. 3. Create the portal's default method. 4. Set the new view as the default. 5. Configure the portal layout. ## Step 1: Creating a new portal This portal is the template through which all personalized Slate videos appear to students if using [Dynamic Content Blocks](/v1/docs/dynamic-content-blocks), meaning that any additional content added to this portal will appear for everyone. 1. Go to **Database** → **Portals.** 2. Select **New Portal**. 3. Configure the following settings: - **Status:**Active - **Folder:**Select an existing folder, or select **Other**and enter a new folder name. - **Key:** Enter `video_portal`*.* - **Name:**Enter a name, like `Personalized Video Portal`. - **Default View:**Leave blank. - **Scope:**Person - **Security:** Person - **Secure Link:**Leave blank - **Anonymous Access:** Allow access only for identified users ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/cd8ea7a6-07f3-4846-a554-627ac016d3e3/Images/Documentation/Create new portal.png) 4. Select **Save**. ## Step 2: Creating a new view 1. Enter a name, like `Default`. 3. Select **Save**. Follow the breadcrumb navigation to the portal overview page. Select **New Method**. Select **Save**. 4. Follow the breadcrumb navigation to the portal overview page. ## Step 4: Setting the new view as the default 1. Select **Edit.** 2. Select your newly created view for the **Default View** setting. 3. If it has not been done automatically, change the **Secure Link** setting at this point to *Enable access via a secure link*; otherwise students will be directed to a login page when they select the video thumbnail rather than being taken directly to the portal. 4. Select **Save**. Select the view you previously created. A *Slate Video* widget is now available for you to drag and drop into place within the body of the Portal. This is the widget Slate will use to display and play the personalized video that was created and included in an email or SMS communication to a Person Record. Select the first (one column) row layout. The new one-column row appears on the portal editor. Select the **Slate Video** widget or drag it into the row you just created. An **Edit Part** popup appears. For **Name**, provide an appropriate name. 6. Select **Save**.
