# Controlling Access to Deliver using Realms

The standard user permissions in Slate can grant access to given functions, but [realms](/v1/docs/realms) enable more targeted functional access restrictions to only **objects**contained within a realm.

## Adding a realm to a mailing

1. Go to **Deliver.**
2. Select **New Mailing**.
3. [Configure the mailing.](/v1/docs/deliver-new-mailing-settings-1)
4. Select a **Realm**.

5. Select **Save.**

Only users with access to the selected realm can view or edit the mailing.

> [!WARNING]
> 😵‍💫 Don’t see realms as an option?
>
> If your database doesn’t have any configured realms, they’ll be completely hidden from the user interface. [Create your first realm](/v1/docs/realms#create-realms) to see them in User Permissions and database objects.
