This example portal is a staff-facing hub for admission counselors. The portal centralizes common counselor tasks, reports, and links in one place, and it can be embedded in a report on the Slate homepage.

The example uses portal tabs to organize daily action items, inquiry and application activity, events, recruitment data, directory information, and help resources.

📝 Note

The example was built with standard fields and prompts where possible, but you should still review imported queries, links, staff assignment logic, and labels before using it in production.

Home tab

The Home tab gives staff a quick view of action items and department activity. It includes outstanding tasks, unresolved Inbox messages, Reader queue counts, announcements, upcoming mailings, an application funnel, and students visiting campus today.

Inquiries tab

The Inquiries tab helps counselors monitor prospective student activity. It includes inquiry counts by term for the logged-in user's staff assignment, a list of inquiries submitted yesterday, and a link to open a new record creation form in a pop-up window.

Selecting a row in the inquiry table opens the student's record in Slate.

Applications tab

The Applications tab displays a funnel report for the logged-in user's assigned applications. It also includes subtabs for applications submitted, admitted, and deposited yesterday.

Rows on the submitted yesterday subtab open a pop-up with outstanding checklist items and a link to the application record. Rows on the admitted and deposited subtabs open the student's application record in Slate.

Events tab

The Events tab shows department-wide admission events, the user's upcoming events, and scheduler appointments. The event links open the relevant records or pages in Slate.

Recruitment tab

The Recruitment tab summarizes outreach activity for the logged-in user. It includes counts for high school visits and college fairs, attendee counts, a heat map of assigned inquiries and applicants, and accordion sections for upcoming event locations and top feeder schools by application volume.

Directory tab

The Directory tab displays users from your Slate database in a searchable table. Email address links use mailto: links so staff can start an email from their default email client.

Help tab

The Help tab gives staff quick access to Slate-related resources. You can customize this tab with internal documentation, training videos, office-specific process notes, or other resources that help current users and new hires.

Review before launch

  • Review each portal query and confirm that filters return the right records for the logged-in user.

  • Confirm that links to Inbox, Reader, forms, application records, events, and help resources point to the right locations.

  • Update labels, announcements, resource links, and office-specific terminology.

  • Test the portal while impersonating users with different staff assignments and permission levels.
