# Custom Relationship Fields

Relation-scoped fields store data specific to an individual relationship record. These fields allow institutions to capture additional information beyond the standard relationship fields visible on the Profile tab of person record. Each relationship record maintains its own values for relation-scoped fields.

## Creating Custom Relationship Fields

1. Select **Database** on the top navigation bar and select **Fields**.
2. Select **New Field**.
3. Select a scope category of **Related**and a scope of **Relation**. The remainder of the settings are the same as the process for [creating custom fields](/v1/docs/custom-fields) and should observe the same considerations.

> Tip
> 
> Exports and Filters are made available overnight. However, to gain immediate access to these when building a Query or mapping form fields, table refreshes are necessary. Navigate to **Database** and click **Refresh Configurable Joins Library**.
