# Dataset Portal Login and Password Reset

You can add custom instructions to the **login** and **password reset pages** of dataset portals.

## **Adding login instructions**

To add custom login instructions to a portal, go to **Database → Portals**. Select a portal, or [create a new one](/v1/docs/creating-a-custom-portal), then select **Edit**.

In the **Login Instructions** field, add custom text, images, and formatting:

The instructions you enter here appear on the portal’s login page:

## **Adding password reset instructions**

Two things to note about custom password reset instructions:

- The portal must have the **Dataset** security type.
- You must **create a custom password reset email** (covered in the next section).

To add custom password reset instructions to a portal, go to **Database → Portals**. Select a portal, or [create a new one](/v1/docs/creating-a-custom-portal). Then, select **Edit**.

In the **Login Instructions** field, add custom text, images, and formatting:

## **Creating a custom password reset email**

You must create an email directing users to the dataset portal password reset screen. Otherwise, the user receives the default system email with a reset link that doesn’t work.

To create a dataset record account password reset mailing:

> [!NOTE]
> 1. From the main navigation, select **Deliver**.
> 2. Select **New Mailing.**
> 3. Enter the following configurations:
>   - **Name:** Dataset Password Reset
>   - **Folder:** System
>   - **Template:** Dataset Record Account Password Reset
>   - **User:** Select the appropriate user account
>   - **Method:** Email
>   - **Template:** Leave this field blank
