# Embedding a Portal

Slate portals can be embedded in your institution's web pages by inserting HTML code generated by Slate. Before following this guide, make sure that you have a basic familiarity with portals, as well as a basic understanding of HTML and CSS.

> 1. Click **Database** on the Slate navigation bar.
> 2. In the **Portals** section, click **Portals**.
> 3. Select the name of the portal to embed. The portal summary page appears.
> 4. On the upper right portion of portal summary the page, click **Embed Portal**. An **Embed Portal** popup appears.

> 5. From the selection list, select **Allow embedding**. A text field appears that contains the appropriate HTML code that will be used to embed the portal on the web page. > 6. Select this code, copy it (Ctrl+C) and paste it (Ctrl+V) into the HTML code of the page where it should appear. Be sure to consider the page's existing layout and format.

> Portals cannot be embedded within forms or within other portals. Embed portals only on non-Slate-hosted pages, such as your institutional website.
