There are two main routes to collecting payments as part of an event registration:
With a form (virtually): You can add a widget to the registration form that calculates and collects a payment
With the Slate Payment Terminal (in person): You can set up Slate’s Payment Terminal hardware to collect payments at the event itself via card and digital wallet, or by manually entering payment information through the terminal
With tap to pay (in person): You can set up a payment terminal (a phone, tablet, or other device) with an existing device to collect payments at the event itself
Collecting payments on a registration form
You can use the payment form widget to collect event fees on a form, either upon initial registration or on the day of the event. Advancement offices looking to calculate a payment or reconcile a fee find this option best suits their needs.
The payment form widget can:
Calculate payment-due amounts and create Payment Due interactions on the registrant’s timeline.
Collect payments using Slate Payments as a requirement of form submission.

Slate Payment Terminal
You can use the Slate Payments Terminal to accept in-person payments from contactless credit or debit cards, Apple Pay, Apple Watch, and smartphones with other digital wallets, or by manually entering card information. It is powered by the Payment Form Widget, allowing the payment amount to be calculated dynamically.
✨ You must use Slate Payments to enable the Slate Payments Terminal.
This streamlined process is useful for collecting day-of event payments, in-person donations, enrollment deposits, etc.
After purchasing a Slate Payment Terminal hardware device, set up is self-service (see link below for complete instructions). To process payments at an event:
Create an internal form registration for any form whose Form Payment widget is set up to Enable Embedded Payment Collection and is paired with the Payment Terminal hardware.
Fill out any form fields necessary to associate the payment with a record or calculate the correct amount to charge.
Click Collect Payment Details above the form Payment Widget, then select your Reader (Payment Terminal Hardware).
Select Card Present to charge in-Person fees, then Capture. The hardware device screen updates to display the payment amount and waits for the payer to tap, insert, or swipe their card. You can also select Manual Entry, and hit Capture to enter card details.
Submit the form to process the payment.

Tap to pay
Tap to pay lets you collect payments on-demand at your in person events, and is particularly well-suited to collect gifts at alumni or donor events.
✨ You must use Slate Payments to access the tap to pay feature.
Setup is entirely self-service, and all payments collected can be managed in your Payment History page.
All you need to do to charge a payment using tap to pay:
Enter the payment amount
Scan a QR code to populate a record, or select one manually
Add a memo to document and add context to the payment
Payment activities cannot currently be associated with a particular event. You must determine the best means for tracking event payments.
