Viewing the full country name is useful for users who are viewing the citizenships or countries of residence for a list of records. However, data is often sent to external systems that require specific codes instead of the full country name. While standard exports for country values (for example, citizenship and address) display the full country name, Slate can export countries using standard ISO Alpha-2 codes, ISO Alpha-3 codes, FIPS 10-4 codes, and custom values, through the use of translation codes.
When using translation codes for string values (like the country name), it is necessary to include a translation for each possible value that needs to be translated. When adding the Country Code translation codes from the Slate Template Library, database will immediately have access to the ISO Alpha-2, ISO Alpha-3, and FIPS 10-4 country codes for each country. If your institution uses custom country codes, the translation codes can be edited either manually or in batch to add custom codes.
The export values for these translation codes are as follows:

Important
There are countries in the list that have not been assigned a code for one or more of the standard code types. For these countries, the associated export value is blank. For example, Ashmore and Cartier Islands has an assigned FIPS 10-4 code, but it does not have assigned ISO Alpha-2 or ISO Alpha-3 codes. Therefore, Export Value and Export Value 2 are intentionally left blank for that translation code.
Adding Translation Codes
Select Database on the top navigation bar and select Slate Template Library.
Enter "country code" in the Search box to find Country Code within the Translation Codes section.
Select the Add link to add the Country Code (string) translation codes.
Select the Add button in the dialog.
Editing Translation Codes
Translation codes can be manually managed via the Translation Codes tool:
Select Database on the top navigation bar and select Translation Codes.
Select the Country Code Translation Key (if your institution has many translation keys, use the search box to help find the Country Code key).
Select the translation code that you wish to edit (the Search box can be used to help find the specific translation code).
Make any desired changes to the export values.
Select Save.
Can translation codes be added in batch?
Translation codes can be batch managed through a source format available in the Slate Template Library. This source format accepts an Excel spreadsheet with specific column headers to add or update translation codes.
Since there are 253 translation codes for countries, this is typically the desired approach to add custom value options.
Using Translation Codes
Translation codes can be referenced in exports within the Query Builder, Report Builder, and Rules Editor by configuring the Export Value setting to one of the Translation Export Value options and selecting the translation code key to use. For example, to export the country's ISO Alpha-3 value, the export should be configured with Translation Export 2 Value selected as the Export Value and Country Code as the Key.
