# How Long Does a Slate Implementation Take?

Slate is designed for rapid implementation: unlike traditional systems that require an extensive, front-loaded period of setup, Slate lets you activate features as you go and refine processes over time.

## Implementation milestones

A structured approach can help track progress and ensure a smooth implementation. Here’s a sample timeline:

- **Week 1:** Launch the request-for-information form, begin historical data import by defining necessary institutional fields
- **Weeks 2-4:** Configure key workflows, set up automations, and start testing
- **Months 2-3:** Launch communications, refine review processes, and expand system capabilities

## Phased activation

A Slate implementation is not all-or-nothing: features can be deployed as you go.

Some examples:

- Your **request for information form** can be live within the first few hours, so you can start collecting inquiries immediately.
- **Importing historical data** can begin within the first week as your team determines the institution-specific fields and field values to establish in Slate.
- **Communications, automations, and review workflows** can be configured and launched throughout the first few months based on your priorities.

Implementation is not a rigid, lengthy process. Some institutions move quickly and launch key workflows within the first few weeks, while others take a phased approach over the first few months, depending on their needs. The timeline is entirely up to your team’s priorities and resource availability.
