# Excel and Google Sheets Live Sync

> **🔑 Permissions required:** Administrator (All Access)

Receive secure, automatic updates to Google and Excel spreadsheets from your Slate queries with **Live Sync**.

To establish a sync to Excel or Google Sheets:

## Set the service type

1. From the main navigation, select **Queries / Reports**.
2. Select an existing query, or [create a new one](/v1/docs/queries-overview).
3. Select **Edit Query.**
4. Select **Edit Web Service.**
5. From the Service Type list, select **Excel** or **CSV / Google Sheets**.
6. Select **Save.**

## Create a user token

1. Select **Edit Permissions.**
2. Configure the following settings:
  - **Type:** User Token
  - **Name:** Enter a name for the token, like “Excel” or “Google Sheets”.

3. Select **Save.**

## Copy the web service URL

1. Next to **Web Service**, select the link (either **Excel** or **CSV / Google Sheets**).
2. From the Service Account list, select the user token you just created.

## Paste the URL into the destination spreadsheet

ExcelCSV / Google Sheets

To paste the URL into an Excel spreadsheet:

1. In an Excel spreadsheet, select **Data** from the ribbon.
2. Select **From Web**.
3. Paste the Slate web service URL.
4. Select **OK**. The *Access Web content* popup appears.
5. Select **Connect**. The *Navigator* popup appears.
6. Select **Export.**

To paste the URL into Google Sheets:

> [!NOTE]
> 1. In a Google Sheet, double-click a cell to edit it.
> 2. Enter the formula `=IMPORTDATA("...")`, where `...` is the URL you copied earlier. A warning appears letting you know that the formula is attempting to import data from a third party.
> 3. Select **Continue**.
