You can change settings for the standard record tabs in **Database → Tabs.**

The default record tabs that come with a [Slate for Admissions 4-year database](/v1/docs/customizing-your-turnkey-4-year-graduate-admissions-database)

Some tabs, like the application record’s *Details* or the person record’s *More Information*, are made using the same custom tab tool that you have access to.

Others, like the tabs prefixed by *System -,*are built into Slate and have different settings.

Select the tab you’d like to customize, or select **Insert**to create a [custom tab](/v1/docs/custom-tabs).

## Standard tab settings

The following settings are available for configuration in standard tabs:

#### Status

By default, all standard tabs are *Active* and appear on the person record.

You can hide any tab by setting its **Status**to *Inactive.*

#### Name

The names of standard tabs cannot be modified.

#### Portal

You can override the standard person *Dashboard*tab with a portal.

This setting is only available for the person-scoped **System - Dashboard** tab.

1. Create an express [portal with *User*security and *Person*scope](/v1/docs/express-portals).
2. Select the portal from the **Dashboard**list.
3. Select **Save**.

The person record’s default *Dashboard*tab is replaced by your portal content.

#### Read Permission

Select a permission from the list. Only those users with this permission will be able to see the tab.

**📖**[Permissions](/v1/docs/user-access)

#### Notes

Add internal notes regarding the tab. Notes do not appear on the tab itself.
