# Portal Access and Editing Permissions

To restrict access and edit permissions to a portal or Express Portal to only specific users, to user with a given permission, or to users with a given role:

> 1. Select **Database**.
> 2. Select **Portals.**
> 3. Select a portal, or [create a new one](/v1/docs/creating-a-custom-portal).
> 4. Select **Edit Permissions.**

> 5. Select **Add Grantee.**
> 6. Configure the following settings:
>   - **Active:** Active
>   - **Type:** Choose between User, Role, and Permission
>     - **User:** Enter a user’s name that should be granted access
>     - **Role:** Select a role from the list that should be granted access
>     - **Permission:** Select a permission from the list that should be granted access
