# Reader AI

**Reader AI**brings the insights of Slate AI to the Reader.

You can treat Reader AI as your knowledgeable colleague, able to quickly analyze and identify pertinent details in letters of recommendation, college essays, or any other document you provide.

## Activating Reader AI

> [!NOTE]
> **⏩ Early Access Feature:**Reader AI is not yet a default for all provisioned Slate databases.

To enable Reader AI:

1. Select **Database**from the main navigation.
2. Select **Configuration Keys.**
3. In the Database Configuration section, select **Early Access Features**.
4. From the list, select **Reader AI.**
5. Select **Save**.

Changes to configuration keys may take up to 15 minutes to be reflected across all web nodes.

To use Reader AI, you must be granted the **Reader AI permission**.

## Analyzing application materials with Reader AI

On any page in the Reader, select **Slate AI icon**from the user menu to open the Slate AI conversation pane. Ask Reader AI about the current document, and it’ll start analyzing for you.

Both the Reader AI pane and your review form can be open simultaneously:

#### Highlighting

Make information pop by asking Reader AI to **highlight content**, like:

- Coursework and research
- Specific language or verbiage in essays, recommendations, or statements
- Specific employment, interests, or sports
- Achievements and awards

#### Questions for Reader AI 💭

Not sure what to ask Reader AI? Some examples might include:

- *What was the lowest grade this applicant received on their transcript? The highest? The average?*
- *In their essay, does the applicant mention other schools they applied to?*
- *What are all of the superlatives mentioned in this letter of recommendation? “Best,” “most,” “highest,” etc.*
- *Did the applicant take*`X`*,*`Y`*, and*`Z`*prerequisite courses?*
- *Does the applicant mention any particular areas of interest for research? Any faculty they want to work with?*

## Reader AI scope

On a given Reader tab (Education History, Employment History, and the like), you’ll likely navigate through a number of reader tab **materials**.

On the Employment History tab, for example, each job is a material.

The Reader AI’s conversational scope is delimited by the current material. That is, it can only provide answers to questions about the material you’re presently looking at.

#### Additional notes on Reader AI functionality:

- Reader AI chat history is preserved for **30 minutes.**
- Currently, Reader AI provides insights to **non-portal**Reader tabs.
- Reader AI does not currently support analysis of video content.
