This article lists the bases from which rules can be built, and the various types of rules that can be made from those bases.
Person-based rule types
Bin
Set or clear the bin and/or reader queue for person records in a person-scoped workflow.
Move records into a workflow for cultivation if they donate above a certain amount, move records into an athletic recruit workflow before they submit an application for admission
Field
Replace, append, or delete a person-scoped field value for person records who meet rule criteria
Examples
Set the student type to field First Year if the field is currently empty and they have no undergraduate or graduate schools on their record
If the student type field is empty and the entry term is Fall 2022 then set the student type field to Freshman
Interaction
Add an interaction to person records who meet rule criteria
Examples
Add a Watch Flag interaction when a person’s application indicates that they are a legacy
If the GPA field is > 4.0 and the Legacy tag exists then add a Watch Flag interaction
Project Task
Associate tasks with person records who meet rule criteria
Example
Assign a task to a record to indicate that they need to receive a phone call by a certain date
Person Active/Inactive
Set Active or Inactive status for person records who meet rule criteria
Example
Set Inactive person records to Active when they make a gift, (advancement), or fill out an inquiry form (admissions)
Person Header
Change the information that displays below record names in the Omni Search for person records who meet rule criteria
When a person record has started an application, application header rules will determine what primarily displays below their name in Omni Search
Example
Automatically display graduating year in the header when a record name appears in the Omni Search drop down (advancement or student success)
Person Index
Change the searchable information for person records in the omni search for person records who meet rule criteria
Example
Allow records to be searchable by Banner or Colleague ID within Slate
Person Population
Add a population to person records who meet rule criteria
Example
Associate prospective applications with a population corresponding to each of their stated academic interests
Person Status
Set or update the system field of Person Status to Prospect, Inquiry, Applicant or Enrolled
Example
Change Person Status to Enrolled once the person has matriculated
Tag
Set or unset a tag for records who meet rule criteria
Examples
Set an Academic Probation tag for enrolled students whose GPA falls below a certain threshold
If the Parent 1 School key is Slate University or the Parent 2 School key is Slate University then set the Legacy tag
Test Optional
Set a "Test Optional" flag for test scores by test type, preventing them from displaying on the a person record dashboard, in the Scores tab, or the Slate Reader, while still retaining the scores themselves in the backend
Example
Mask ACT and SAT scores when an applicant answers "No" to application question "Would you like Slate University to consider test scores in your application?"
Application-based rule types
Activity
Add an activity to applications which meet rule criteria
Examples
Add an application fee payment due activity to the application record as soon as it is submitted
When a student submits a Study Abroad application add an application fee payment due activity
Application Header
Change the default information that displays below record names in the Omni Search, on application record tabs, and on application record dashboards
Examples
Display the decision plan (Early Decision, Early Action, Regular Decision) at the top of the application record dashboard
For your Study Abroad students, create a rule which included sets the label to SA-2022
Application Header (External)
Change the default application information that appears to applicants on the application status page or portal
Examples
Display a program next to the application’s round so that the applicants applying to multiple programs can easily differentiate and toggle between them in the status portal
When a Study Abroad student logs in to their Student Portal, display the status of their application, show the application label of 'Study Abroad 2022'
Application Header Color
Set a small colored square next to the application header on application record tabs and within the Omni Search
Examples
Add a visual indicator to differentiate between undergraduate- and graduate-round applications on the same person record
Add a custom green block for Study Abroad applications or a blue block for a Residence Life job applications
Application Population
Add a population to applications which meet the criteria
Examples
Associate applications with a population specific to the department they are applying to
Create a Study Abroad application population to easily identify and communicate with via drip campaigns.
Application Priority
Overwrite the native application rank to prioritize applications when many may exist on a single person record
Examples
If a graduate applicant has applied to several different programs in the same entry term and has several applications, ensure that one with an Enrolled decision is prioritized
When more than one of the same type of application is created, you can give a higher rank to the application with a decision making it easier to filter on the appropriate application for reports and communications
Application Status
Set or update the system field of Application Status
Examples
When an application is submitted and has all checklist items fulfilled then set the application status to Awaiting Decision
When a Study Abroad application is submitted and has all checklist items fulfilled then set the application status to Awaiting Decision
Bin
Set or clear the bin and/or reader queue for application records in an application scoped workflow
Examples
Move a record into an Initial Review bin when the application status is Awaiting Decision
If the Study Abroad Application Status is Awaiting Materials and the Bin is not assigned then set the Bin to Awaiting Materials
Checklist
Add, remove, or fulfill checklist items for applications which meet rule criteria
Examples
Define which applicants should have English proficiency test scores added to their checklists as a required material
Define the checklist group for Study Abroad applicants and require items such as a resume and/or faculty recommendation
Decision
Add a decision to applications which meet rule criteria and where the decision is one that can be added via rules
Examples
Automatically add an Enrolled decision to an application record when that applicant pays their enrollment deposit
If the Study Abroad applicant has paid their fee then add the Deposited decision to the application
Field
Replace, append, or delete a field value for applications which meet rule criteria
Examples
If an application has a Common App ID and the Application Type is empty then set the Application Type to Common App
Set a value to a custom field based upon the submitted responses from your Study Abroad applicant
Project Task
Associate tasks with applications which meet rule criteria
Example
Create a task for Admission Officers to send a personalized text message to all incomplete applicants that they had an interview with
Tag
Set or unset a tag for applications which meet rule filter criteria
Set a Reapplied tag when an applicant indicates that they have applied previously
Set the Study Abroad tag on the student record for an easy visual reference
Person-scoped form & event rule types
Field
Replace or delete a field value for records based on a form response
If the Student Type field is empty and the Entry Term is Fall 2020 then set the student type field to Freshman
Interaction
Add an interaction to records based on a form response
If a student was contacted through a telecommunications campaign then add an interaction

If a student submits an athlete recruitment form then set the Athlete tag
