# Scoir Unified Messaging

**Scoir Unified Messaging**lets you communicate with stealth applicants through Deliver.

#### Steps to using Scoir Unified Messaging

1. Create a Scoir ID field
2. Add a Scoir account in Deliver Configuration
3. Connect the Scoir account to Slate
4. Add the Scoir Audience source format
5. Configure the Scoir Audience source format
6. Activate the Scoir Audience source format
7. Send a Scoir message with Deliver

## Step 1: Creating a Scoir ID field

If your institution already receives data from Scoir from the source formats **Scoir**or **ScoirMaterials**, you likely have a field established for Scoir ID.

Check if you have a Scoir ID field in **Database → Fields**:

1. Use the Search Fields bar to look for any fields with `scoir` in their name or field ID.
2. If you find a Scoir ID field, you can move on to [Step 2: Creating the Deliver Configuration account](/v1/docs/scoir-unified-messaging#step-2-creating-the-deliver-configuration-account).

If you don't yet have a Scoir ID field:

1. From the main navigation, select **Database**.
2. Under Records & Datasets, select **Fields.**
3. Select **New Field.**A popup appears.
4. Configure the following settings:
  - **Status:** Active
  - **Scope Category:** Records
  - **Scope:** Person
  - **ID:** `scoirID`
  - **Name:** Scoir ID
  - **Folder:** Keep fields organized by placing them in a folder. Create a new folder by selecting **Other**and entering a name.
  - **Category:** Select or create an optional field category.
  - **Field Type:** Free Text
  - **Unique for Merging:** Value contains a unique ID which identifies a single record for merging. ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/cd8ea7a6-07f3-4846-a554-627ac016d3e3/Images/Documentation/Scoir ID Field.png)
5. Click **Save.**
6. Click the link in the sidebar to refresh the fields cache.

With a Scoir ID field in place, we can move on to connecting your institution's Scoir account to Slate.

## Step 2: Creating the Deliver Configuration account

1. From the main navigation, select **Database.**
2. Under Communications, select **Deliver Configuration.**
3. Click **Add Account.**A popup appears.
4. From the Service list, select **Scoir.**
5. Click **Continue.**The Edit Account popup appears.
6. Configure the following settings:
  - **Status:** Active
  - **Name:** Enter a name for the Deliver account, like "Scoir".
  - **Scoir Account:** Select your institution's Scoir account.
  - **Activating User:** By default, this is the user creating the Deliver account. Click the pencil to edit the user's name, email, and title.
  - **Scoir Student Outreach Manager:** Select a user to assign them the responsibility for messaging Scoir students. This information is shared with Scoir and can be updated by emailing [support@scoir.com](mailto:support@scoir) ![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/cd8ea7a6-07f3-4846-a554-627ac016d3e3/Images/Documentation/Add Scoir Account.png)
7. Click **Save.**

## Step 3: Connecting your Scoir account to Slate

1. Select the newly created Scoir account from the list of Deliver accounts. A popup appears.
2. Under Configurations, click **Scoir Account Login**. You are directed to the Scoir [Slate Integration Activation page](https://www.scoir.com/colleges-slate-integration-activation).
3. Follow the steps described on the page by either logging in or requesting an account.

![](https://cdn.us.document360.io/cd8ea7a6-07f3-4846-a554-627ac016d3e3/Images/Documentation/Edit User Account.png)

In completing the previous steps, Slate creates a **Scoir Acount prompt**under the prompt key `device_type` and maps the Scoir College ID value to it.

## Step 4: Adding the Scoir Audience source format

When a student expresses interest in your institution through Scoir, their information is imported to your database through the **Scoir Audience source format.**

To add the Scoir Audience source format to your database:

1. From the main navigation, select **Database.**
2. Under Import and Data Processing, select **Source Format Library.**
3. In the Search Library bar, enter "Scoir Audience".

### Record matching

The Scoir Audience source format uses custom SQL to match existing records or create new ones. Since Scoir hashes applicant data to protect their privacy, you'll receive new records with identifying information scrambled by a hash, a type of data encryption. If Slate determines these hashed values match an existing record in your database, it will match the two.

Match attempts stop as soon as a successful match exists: once a record is found, that is considered the record. The matching logic is:

1. **Scoir ID:**The unique field from the source data. If there's no match, then Slate looks for a hash created from...
2. **Account email address** + **first** + **last:** If these data aren't available, Slate looks for a hash created from...
3. **Personal email address** + **first** + **last:**If these data aren't available, Slate looks for a hash created from...
4. **First** + **last** + **birthdate:**If there is no matching record for this hash, Slate creates a new person record without identifying information.

### New record creation

If Slate doesn't find a match, it creates a record with name unknown. You can still communicate with these records using the Scoir method in Deliver, which is covered in the next section. When it creates a new record, Slate will also store the hash values for those unknown records attributed to the source format. These can be used during standard imports for matching purposes.
