Article summary

You can manage donor solicitation controls and communication preferences with custom fields or with message groups.

Creating and filtering on custom solicitation fields

You can create a person-scoped custom field and an accompanying prompt list to represent your constituents’ solicitation preferences. You can associate this field value with a record by collecting it on a form. Then, when you create a query or recipient list, you can filter for the existence of these solicitation preferences to filter individuals who should not be solicited in a particular method.

Creating message groups

For emails, you can create message groups to let donors specify the communication campaigns from which they’d like to opt out. Donors can also opt-out from all marketing communication from an institution.

💡 Transactional messages, like confirmation emails, are delivered regardless of a constituent’s opt-out status.
