Querying for Email Mailing Statistics

Prev Next

You can query for email mailing statistics to review how delivered messages perform across sends, opens, clicks, skips, and bounces. Use this approach to compare communication performance, identify deliverability issues, and report on engagement across mailings.

Try a Slate example 💼

Copy this Suitcase ID and paste it in Database → Suitcase Import to import a pre-made example query:

💡 Tip

Find this query and other importable examples in the Admissions Showcase environment.

Reviewing email mailing performance

An email mailing statistics query can show one row per mailing with counts for sent, delivered, opened, clicked, skipped, and bounced messages. This gives your team a quick view of how individual mailings perform and where follow-up review may be needed.

The example filters to email mailings with a status of completed, running, or running/ongoing. These filters keep the query focused on active or completed communication efforts instead of draft, template, or system mailings.

Building the query

Create the query

  1. Go to Queries / Reports.

  2. Select New Query.

  3. Configure the following settings:

    • Name: Email mailing statistics

    • Folder: Select the folder where the query should be saved.

    • Type: Configurable Joins

    • Base: Message Mailing

  4. Select Save.

Add filters

Use direct filters on the Message Mailing base to keep the query focused on relevant email mailings.

Method

  1. Select Filter.

  2. Under Message Mailing, select Method.

  3. Select Continue.

  4. Set the filter to IN.

  5. From the list, select email.

  6. Select Save.

Status

  1. Select Filter.

  2. Under Message Mailing, select Status.

  3. Select Continue.

  4. Set the filter to IN.

  5. From the list, select Completed, Running, and Running/Ongoing.

  6. Select Save.

Add exports

Exports can vary by database, but this example shows the kinds of columns that are useful for email performance review.

Export

Purpose

Mailing Name

Identifies the mailing in the results.

Folder

Shows where the mailing is organized.

Sent Count

Counts messages that were sent or processed for delivery.

Delivered Count

Counts messages that reached a delivered or engagement status.

Open Count

Counts open tracking events.

Click Count

Counts non-open click tracking events.

Unique Open Count

Counts messages with at least one open or click.

Unique Click Count

Counts messages with at least one click.

Skip Count

Counts messages skipped because of abort, duplicate, opt-out, suppression, bounce, or failure conditions.

Bounce Count

Counts messages with bounce, temporary failure, or returned-to-sender statuses.

Customizing the results

Add filters when you need to focus the report on a specific folder, mailing name, campaign period, or audience segment. For example, you might add an activated date filter to compare mailings from a specific cycle or month.

You can also add exports for additional context, such as mailing type, activated date, user, or other local fields that help your team compare communication performance.
