📚 Part of the series Application Building Phase III: Checklists, Automations, and the Status Page
Application status rules set the status of an application, which drives bin movement during the review process. The Application Status filter can also be used in application-related communications to help applicants complete their applications.
The application status rules in your database
By default, your database includes nine application status rules. They must be customized to support your institution’s individual process. They are, in order of priority:
Skip Inactive Period - Do Nothing
To avoid running older applications through this collection of rules, we include a rule that skips over all inactive applications.

Decided - Released Decision
If a record has a released decision, this rule sets the application status to Decided.

Decided - Confirmed Decision
If a record has a confirmed but not released decision, this rule sets the application status to Decided.

Awaiting Submission
If an application exists but is not submitted, this rule sets the application status to Awaiting Submission.

Awaiting Payment
If an application payment is not submitted, then set the application status to Awaiting Payment.

Awaiting Materials - Custom Checklist Items
If all of the checklist items required for reading are incomplete, this rule sets the status to Awaiting Materials.

Awaiting Materials - Recommendations
If a specified number of recommendations have not been received for an application, this rule sets the status to Awaiting Materials.

Awaiting Confirmation
This rule checks for the existence of a provisional (unconfirmed) decision and updates the status to Awaiting Confirmation.

Awaiting Decision
If an application does not match any of the previous application status rules, this rule sets the status to Awaiting Decision.
Applications that matched any of the filter criteria for the previous rules are not eligible for this rule. This means that the only records acted upon by this rule are evaluated as complete but without a decision.
