📝 A note on the Slate AI model

Slate AI is powered by an OpenAI large language model and follows OpenAI policies.

Your data is never stored, pooled with other data, or used for AI training. Only the information needed to complete your request is shared with the model at the moment you ask a question, and no data is retained beyond that interaction.

Asking Slate AI

On any Slate page, select the Slate AI icon from the dashboard.

In the text box, enter a prompt. Slate AI starts working on an answer.

Prompting Slate AI ✨

New to conversing with large language models (LLMs)? Well, everyone is!

Learn the basics of prompting (getting a generative AI assistant to do something for you) with Prompting Slate AI.

Build portals

🏔️ Summit 2025 Feature

Slate AI works anywhere you find a WYSIWYG editor in Slate, including portals.

  1. First, give Slate AI something to work with in the form of exports (Express Portals) or queries (conventional portals).

  2. Then, anywhere you find a WYSIWYG interface, tell Slate AI how you want the portal part to look, and it busies itself generating the CSS rules, HTML, and  liquid markup that render the portal part as you’ve specified.

Analyze query results

🏔️ Summit 2025 Feature

On the results page for an executed query, you can ask Slate AI to perform analyses on the query data.

Ask Slate AI to break down complicated queries any way you like:

Or, ask Slate AI how to best analyze the data.

Create tasks

Slate AI is fully integrated with Projects & Tasks. Here are just a few things you can do with it:

  • Start a prompt with something like Email Alexander Hamilton... or Remind me to..., and Slate AI will create a task based on your input.

  • Add a deadline, like follow up with an alumni by June 29th or remind me to call Alexander Hamilton next week and Slate AI will add a deadline to the task.

Search the Knowledge Base… and beyond

Ask Slate AI:

  • How to build an alumni portal

  • When Slate Summit is happening this year

  • How to create a ticketing system using workflows

  • When your school’s Early Action deadline is

  • How to refund a payment

… and it will scour the entire internet, including the Slate Knowledge Base and any internal knowledge sources you’ve uploaded (🏔️ Summit 2025 Feature) for an answer.

Slate AI synthesizes results from multiple articles, and will provide links for you to explore additional information related to your prompt.

Ask about a record

If you’re on a constituent record, Slate AI knows that this record is the context for your prompts.

On Alexander Hamilton’s page, for example, you can ask Slate AI:

  • What gifts has Alexander made this year?, as well as follow-ups like When did they give the most?

  • Who is Alexander related to?

  • Did Alexander ever take the SAT?

Create dashboards

Tell Slate how to create and interpret record dashboards.

Analyze application materials

Use Reader AI to interpret application materials like essays, transcripts, letters of recommendation and more.

🏔️ Summit 2025 Feature

Ask Slate AI to highlight relevant passages directly on the application.

Respond to messages

🏔️ Summit 2025 Feature

Create one of four types of AI-enabled bots to respond intelligently to inquiries.

Bots range from simple Q&A chat bots that answer verbatim from a list of potential responses, to agents that can carry out conversations and perform actions in Slate based on the conversation’s content and the prompting you provide.
