PGP Encrypted Score Data Files

Some testing agencies provide score data files in a PGP-encrypted format. You can decrypt a supported file before uploading it or configure Slate to decrypt it during import.

Use these steps only with a source format that is currently supported and specifically accepts PGP-encrypted files. Several legacy PGP formats for ACT, AP, SAT, GRE, and TOEFL have been deprecated. Do not select a deprecated format for a new import or integration. Check The Source Format Library for the supported format that matches the provider and file type.

Uploading PGP-encrypted score data files

1. If you have already added the source format, go to Database → Source Formats to edit the format.

2. Otherwise, go to Database → Source Format Library. Add a currently supported source format whose description explicitly identifies PGP-encrypted files. When you add the source format, enter the PGP Private Key and PGP Password, if applicable.

   

3. For the PGP private key, export the private key from your PGP software. The private key will look something like the example below, which has been abbreviated for clarity. The private key should be copied and pasted into the PGP Private Key field. You do not need to provide a public key.

4. Enter the PGP private key.  If the PGP key was set up with a password, that password should be provided in the PGP Password field.

   

5. Select Save. Slate will make sure that the PGP private key is valid and that the password matches the private key (if applicable). If you receive any errors at this stage, it may indicate an invalid PGP key or an incorrect password. The error messages are typically descriptive.

6. Upload a score data file to the new PGP format. If there is an error with the PGP key, such as if the file was encrypted for a different PGP key than what you had provided, return to the private-key step and provide the correct key.
